Additional Information

Gunshi is more than just a guy who inherited a martial art.

He has been a fighter all his life, from the ghetto as a child, to the various boxing rings, to the cage, in the streets, and to the fields fighting for native rights, he has hunted deer, moose and bear with a bow, has patrolled a city as a police officer alone, and without back-up..

A wise martial art teacher told him to come to the cemetery to learn about life from the dead, in the cemetery, the teacher asked him to pick a tombstone, which he did, and then the teacher asked him what he knew about that person.

He knew the name, gender and birth and death dates, that’s all the tombstone told him, so, the teacher said “see the line between birth date and death date, that was that person’s life” and we know nothing about it.

The message was you exist as a person as ,long as you are remembered, once forgotten, you cease to exist.. immortality is doing great deeds so you will be remembered.

Gunshi has done great thing, he is one of the few men who broke 4 world’s records in different sports, he set the example for others to follow, and he taught lessons about life, the martial arts has been his vehicle to reach people and teach them values.

In 2010, he became the oldest man to compete in a professional full contact  MMA match, at age 70, he faced off against a 48 year old ex wrestler and kickboxer who outweighed him by 55 pounds, here are a few pictures of that event.

This entire idea was based on the fact that as one ages, they are soon looked as feeble and  stupid, and everyone thinks they cannot do anything of worth.

Gunshi knew that MMA was the fastest growing sport in the world, and its champions are thought to be celebrated heroes who know everything.

He knew that the oldest MMA fighter was a guy named Hall, at somewhere in his early 60's,, so, he decided to enter the cage at age 70, but ran into problems right-away, the commission refused him a licence based on age and stariotyping.

After-all! a 70 year old would be lucky if he could walk to the cage, let alone compete.

But, Gunshi is not your average 70-year-old, he has trained all his life, not sissy training, but heavy weights, heavy bag & wind sprints, but most important, he is a real grandmaster of a 1200-year old jujitsu system, one that contains 2400 techinques, one that enabled him to fight full contact over and over, so he went to the human rights commission and cried discrimination based on age.

They made him take all kinds of tests, far more than any other MMA fighter ever took, and he passed them with ease, so a licence was issued.

Finding an opponant wasn't hard, he had an enemy that wanted to kick his butt over a car deal, and he had no love for this guy either.

The problen was he weighed 195, the guy weighed 255, so he gained weight to bring himself into the heavyweight division at 207, and the fight was on.

The commission added one new rule, because the opponant was a former kickboxer, both were required to wear shinguards, and it was 3 x 5 minute rounds.

Some thought this was a game, some

freak show, fake or fixed, but this was a real fight, Gunshi wanted  to hurt him and wanted to hurt Gunshi, there were no special rules, it was unified MMA rules, and it was a hard fight.

And in the first round Mr. Brubaker landed a hard right to the head that wobbled Gunshi.

He was hurt, but tried not to show it, but between rounds he recouperated and, in the 2nd round,  he came out to win.

As they touched gloves, Brubaker landed a hard kick to the ribs, but for 40 years, as  part of his many demonstrations , he invited anyone to give him a hard round kick to the ribs, none ever hurt him, and neighter did Brubaker, to demoralise brubaker, Gunshi exposed his ribs and invited him to kick, which he did with no effect, that was the begining of the end.powerful leg kick and ankle lock sealed Brubakers fate.

A hard kick to the leg by Gunshi, followed by kube nage (neck throw) and they were on the ground, and soon, a powerful ankle lock and it was over...
