Note * Both UKE and TORI perform this kata standing up ! The PROPER method for performing / practicing ALL DAITO - RYU AIKI JUJUTSU techniques with a partner is for UKE to tell TORI what stance to take and what technique to attack with, and Uke then tells TORI what defensive technique he/she will perform against this attack !

  • Unless TORI knows what technique UKE will defend with, TORI will almost surely suffer a severe dislocation of the joints or very harmful fall. ( It is absolutely imperative that the students LEARN this practice at the very beginning of their training. )

Bokkyo no kata

Instruction

  • Student MUST help teach a regular class and be active in dojo activities.

INTER-USAGE / Adaptability Must be able to inter-exchange techniques effectively

  • (take techniques from first kata and shift them around against the different strikes )

NOTE : Since this is the final level of SHODEN ( UNGRADED or LOWEST LEVEL) of training in DAITO-RYU the student are expected to have learned that Daito-Ryu students are required to be 100% loyal and appreciative of being permitted to study this great art under qualified instructors !

  • Although there are thousands of different martial arts being taught today, few are more prestigious and authentic as the 1150-year-old Minamoto/ Aizu secret fighting art known as DAITO-RYU !

  • Be proud and honoured that we had such great masters and true fighters as Shiro Saigo, Tanomo Saigo, and Sokaku Takeda to show us the true way!

  GRADED STUDENTS

CHUDEN students will wear blackbelt with red stripe through centerline

 

  • The " RED" stripe signifies that blood is drawn with these specific techniques.(The blood is symbolic, refering the begining of personal tests of strength using the  techniques of Daito-Ryu )

  • The red stripe also signifies the taking of the " Blood Oath" taken by the student for official entry within the ryu .

  • The black signifies the core of the ryu . ( Traditions, ceremonies, etc.. )

  • The student will wear a white judo gi with black hakama and red kanji crest .

INSTRUCTION

  • All students entering CHUDAN LEVEL must commit themselves to voluntarily teaching a regular class of beginners. ( No chuden level students should accept payment for teaching except to possibly cover expenses )  

 

Since ALL SAIGO-HA DAITO-RYU CERTIFICATION IS TEMPORARY ( With an annual expiration date) the Chuden & Okuden student who refuses to help spread DAITO-RYU will have their ranks suspended .

 


TRAINING FEES

  • Chuden Students are expected to continue to pay their regular dojo membership fees ! ( Remember that paying fees demonstrates loyalty to the ryu and support for the dojo ! * It is not a payment for instruction, but simply for the right to belong to the ryu and enter the dojo)

Wearing the SHODEN OBI or CHUDEN OBI does not qualify anyone to OPEN A NEW DOJO or TEACH PROFESSIONALLY! (anyone caught doing this without proper permission will be disciplined ),

  • Only those of Okuden licenses are permitted to open and operate a Saigo-Ha Daito-Ryu Dojo ! ( all others below this rank can only teach or run a dojo under direct supervision of Okuden or higher teachers.)

  • All Dojos are under direct control of the main hombu ! ( each must use the dojo to help spread the art of Saigo-Ha Daito-Ryu Aiki Jujutsu and support the hombu , none are permitted to serve the best interests of the dojo master )

All Chuden students must take the Keppan ( Symbolic Blood Oath of loyalty ! )

  This grade occasionally includes being awarded the KYOJU DAIRII licenses ( personal representive of the hombu) if there is special circumstances involved due to ability, location or better promotion

 Note * Sandan level of Okuden involves intense training on grappling . It includes mastery of chokes, locks, holds and pins for groundfighting. All students at this level as encouraged to compete in limited holds grappling contests like judo to develop fighting spirit and self-confidence .

  • The competition in grappling ( standing or on the mats) is a carry-over from the well - documented Chikara or " tests of strengths" ( sometimes called Sumo) conducted between the various samurai clans in times of peace . ( Of course ! In fuedal times they were sometimes to the death )

  • Every student "must" compete in some type of grapping . (This is required before any student can test for Okuden license.

 

OKUDEN
